ASTEF Aspiring Educator Grant Scholarships toward your studies! Deadline to Apply: March 1, 2027 The purpose of the Aspiring Educator Grant is to encourage prospective women educators in Texas. The Aspiring Educator Grant aims to provide funds to help women in Texas complete a degree and earn Texas teacher certification. It may also provide funds for Alternative Teacher Certification for women who already have a degree and want to become teachers. Each applicant may receive $750 for a 3-hour award and up to $1,500 for a 6-hour award toward a degree and Texas teaching certificate. The amount available for alternative teacher certification will be a one-time award not to exceed $750. To start your application, visit the Forms tab on the ASTEF website at www.astef.org. Hey, Girlfriend!
I just had to tell you the latest scoop on ASTEF and our chapter. The craziest things happen in both places. And believe me I’m here for it! I’m so excited we got a speaker for the ASTEF ticketed event at San Marcos, and I was part of the selection process! Strangely, they asked me to sit in on the speaker interview via Zoom. I figured they wanted me to prepare some questions for the prospective speaker, so I did my due diligence and had some thought provoking, intelligent questions prepared. I liked the speaker candidate right away just from looking at her. She had pinkish-colored hair, and I always say hair color choice is a good indicator of a woman’s ability to get a job done. I knew this woman was bold, forward thinking, and quirky enough to mesmerize a bunch of teachers. When it came time for questions, my flabbers were gasted because I actually got a chance to ask my brilliant questions. Toward the end of our Zoom interview, PychoSuzy asked if anyone else had any other questions for our candidate. I quickly spoke up and said I had some very thought provoking questions prepared and they would help me make my decision about Ms. Pinkish Hair. Mind you, they hadn’t asked me to come up with questions but I wanted to be prepared in case I was asked if I had any questions. I just couldn’t wait for the other ladies to hear what I had prepared. I keep asking myself, “How did I even get on the board?” You will understand when you hear my questions! Ms. Pinkish Hair literally played a game with my questions of This or That! Okay, here goes— “Salad greens or chocolate?” “The actor Mark Harmon— St. Elsewhere or NCIS?” “Romcom or historical fiction?” “Charcuterie Board or kiddie pool filled with food and adult drinks?” What the heck-what’s the deal with these questions?
