This is me on the first day of my field work!
This year I had field work in an ECSE classroom - Early Childhood Special Education classroom. I was able to observe for 8 weeks how a wonderful Northside School's class functioned. I am enrolled in two literacy classes this semester for teaching proficient literacy and writing for a vast amount of levels. Seeing the activities correlate to the teachings I had in class was truly special. I learned so much from my mentor teacher's use of small groups and the incorporation of hands on manipulatives to emphasize early education literacy. She was so kind and calm with all the children and had such effective transitions to smoothly operate her classroom.
I will be continuing at UTSA next semester as a full time junior and one class I will be taking is a ten week field observation for the spring semester! I also have been working at a Daycare/private school called Primrose. I began working here in March and have really grown in operating a class with a lot of younger aged students. It is one thing to want to teach and take all the lectures about teaching; it's another to be put into an actual classroom in charge of 10-20 students.
The Aspiring Educator grant helped me pay my tuition so I did not have to take out a loan. I was able to pay all my tuition and then UTSA offered rental books for free for all aspiring teachers. This semester has truly been a blessing for me economically.
I am still on track to graduate with a concentration in EC-12 Special Education. I will graduate Fall 2025 and that will be my last semester which will only consist of my final clinical teaching. Until then, I plan on continuing to work in schools or daycares, I have found it to be the most fulfilling job, and the most resourceful job for my future teaching practices. Additionally, I was admitted into the Teacher Certification Program! This means I will be ready to start my journey on taking exams for teaching. I was told by a teacher support counselor to start taking those exams next fall, so that will be when I start!
