epsilon Sigma Mid Year 2023
We held a workshop for elementary teachers from nine local schools focusing on using music and art to engage students in an effective and fun way. We served them breakfast and lunch. We provided all materials for the hands-on activities. Each person received a hand painted drawstring bag filled with school supplies donated by our members, a glass memo holder made by STAR3 participants, and a $25 gift card. We encouraged them to use the gift card to purchase the supplies needed for the activities done at the workshop. They also received 3 hours of CPE credit and we paid the $5 fee. Eighteen educators attended. Art and music sessions were presented by chapter members.
Eighteen educators attended. Typically each one has 22 students in their class. So 396 students were impacted. Grade level taught ranged from three year-olds to 5th grade. One of the 18 attending is the Director of the local Head Start program. We feel she had a larger impact as she taught her staff of 24 one of the projects made. 244 staff received cupcakes and were entered in a drawing. One of the school districts included is a Title 1 district, two private schools had teachers attend, and the other district is an average district with most families in the middle income range. Those from Head Start deal with families with low family incomes and with a large percentage of minority students.
