ETA ZETA REPORT
Practice books for exams were purchased with the funds provided by ASTEF. Three Eta Zeta Chapter members engaged the students, as tutors, to review and teach test-taking strategies for when they were eligible to take the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) exam. All Eta Zeta members voted to donate $200 to purchase 20 $5.00 gift cards from McDonald's and 20 $5.00 gift cards from Jack in the Box as incentives for those students who passed an exam. Six Eta Zeta members each wrote 10 personal notes of encouragement and congratulations to students successfully passing an exam.
The chapter members helped to plan and select different ways they could help with the project. Four members went to the school to meet with Principal Marian Willard and Ms. Kim Evans to plan the structure of the project. Three members participated in tutoring from October to March as the school district would permit entry. Six members wrote notes to encourage and congratulate students who were able to pass an exam. Two members facilitated the purchase of gift card incentives after Seventeen members voted at a Zoom meeting to purchase them.
The students used the practice books and worked to pass their exams. They enjoyed our presence and looked forward to our return. One student commented, "I wish Mrs. Bixler could be my teacher all the time." Other students would smile to greet us and many thanked us for coming. Principal Willard reported the pass rate statistics as encouraging news regarding our presence and efforts. The students worked for the gift cards and they were grateful for the personal notes. The attention and the time of instruction prompted them to ask for us to return.
