kappa lambda end of Year 2023
Students were able to buy supplies for service learning/ gardening class. Students served were in grades 7-12. Students grew flowers and vegetables in garden in front of the school. We studied planting schedules and collaborated to determine what to plant and when to plant based on our climate. Students learned about preparing soil, different types of soil, and how to maintain a garden.
We also researched watering requirements and how to tend soil/ care for plants as they grow. We were also able to purchase supplies for 5 additional garden beds as well as 4 portable climbing trellis planters. Students were taught and guided in assembling the materials for garden beds and planters.
Students are middle and high school students who receive special education services in Round Rock ISD. Our program serves students who have significantly challenging behavior which disrupts their or others learning to the degree that their home campus cannot currently meet their needs. These students come to us, learn skills needed along with core academics, and are then transitioned back to their home campus.
