September 13, 2020 - advocates for education
Each year ASTEF awards an outstanding woman who is an avid supporter of education by showing her commitment to service and financial contributions to multiple areas of education while not a current educator herself. This woman is a champion for education in her community, area, state, and beyond.
In 2017, the First Advocate for Education was awarded during the ASTEF Annual Meeting held in Houston that summer to Mrs. Erin Steele shown below with then ASTEF President Dr. Barbara Derrick.
Other Advocates include Ms. Jane Bounds, Ms. Patricia Hardy, and recently to Ms. Gerry MacPherson Fleuriet. Each woman is unique in their contributions to education ranging from business owner, university leader, community leader, and even a State School Board Member. Yet, all are passionate about education and making sure each Texas child is given the best education possible. They are truly advocating and making dreams come true for so many Texas children and students.
Any member can nominate a deserving woman for this award. Applications and guidelines are located on the ASTEF website under Forms. Who will be the next Advocate?
