September 15, 2020 - aspiring educator grants
One of the responsibilities of ASTEF is to award women, seeking to become an educator, grants ranging from $500 to $1,000 to help them on their educational journey. ASTEF has been able to award $10,000 each year to these deserving women beginning in 2013. Up to 2019, we have awarded $36,750. We awarded $10,000 in 2020, making the grand total $46,750.
Recently the grant has been expanded to include a one-time $500 grant to those working on alternative certification.
These women must be sponsored by a TSO member and complete an application due on March 1. The Projects Committee follows up with the recipients through notes, cards, and emails encouraging them as they pursue their degree.
For the first-time this year the recipients included grants given to two Collegiate members. These women are already connected to a chapter. Once they complete their degree and obtain a teaching position they will move to Active Membership.
One of the most exciting things that have resulted because of Collegiate membership in Texas is the decision that their time as a Collegiate member will count towards total years of membership. “Why is this exciting?” you might ask. This will help them to become eligible for State Scholarships much sooner if they decide to pursue an advanced degree or certification. This becomes a win-win situation.
ASTEF is proud to say they are helping these deserving women’s dreams come true!

The Aspiring Educator Grant was such a blessing in helping me with the high cost of earning a degree.
