ASTEF AWARDS TOTAL STIPENDS OF $18,593

1. Iota Epsilon - The Writing is on The Wall - $250, area 18. This project is designed to implement positive character traits for grades K - 5 by supporting teachers with character education resources.
2. Omega - Make Kindness Normal - $938, area 13, will assist in choosing, purchasing, labeling and delivering paper-back books that will reinforce lessons delivered by campus counselors in their classroom instruction. Over 800 students in first and second grade will benefit.
3. Theta Epsilon - Mental Health Matters - $1,938, area 12, will provide one activity a month for six months that will motivate and promote strategies to reinforce a hierarchy of mental health needs: hope, rest, empathy, humor, self-care, self-compassion, and so forth.
4. Lambda - Helping Homeless Students - $1,500, area 8. This project allows the Lambda chapter to help restock the Afterschool Center for Education supply room with clothing, underwear, hygiene, and other needed items for approximately 40 homeless students.
5. Kappa Lambda - Beyond the Textbook #3 - $1,600, area 7 will provide for basic needs of students at Success High School, an alternative school for scholars that were not successful in a traditional high school. This grant includes food, clothing, diapers, formula and/or baby food for teen parents.
6. Eta Alpha - Continued Service to Children and Families in Crisis- $500, area 11. The Panhandle Crisis Center located in Perryton, Texas will receive school supplies, medical supplies, art supplies, snacks, and other needed supplies..
7. Lambda Gamma - Sharing Love with the Owens Jackrabbits - $1,200, area 18, will continue their partnership with a local church to provide 25 pairs of shoes for economically disadvantaged children in grades pre-K through 5th grade, school supplies, and a scholastic E-gift cards for the Book Monster incentive program which encourages reading and literary skills.
8. Beta Epsilon - Take Along Bags - $375, area 12, will continue to provide necessary items and snacks or even meals for the weekends so the homeless children and/or the children who fall into the very low socioeconomic category in Mitchell county will have something to eat during the times school is not in session.
9. Lambda Sigma - Thanks for Teachers Snack Bags - $500, area 4, are hoping they have found a creative way to support the faculty and staff at Lula Belle Goodman community school. Their plans include providing a snack bag filled with healthy snacks, hand sanitizer and an inspirational bookmark for the 56 teachers and 69 staff members, letting them know how much they are appreciated.

Phi - Welcome to the World of Teaching Mentoring Project - $855,. area 1 - Rusk County. 12 early career educators will benefit through small tokens of appreciation, notes of support and relationship building, first year educators are offered continued support as they work through the ups and downs of the first year of teaching.
11. Mu Iota - Increasing Teacher Retention - $500, area 2. Mu Iota members will continue mentoring new teachers in their school district with strategic interactions to increase staff retention by hosting a New Teacher Celebration, by providing needed classroom materials, and making connections to reinforce new teachers are 'family' to the school district.
12. Beta Upsilon - New Teacher Grant - $600, area 10, will provide funds for ten brand new educators to outfit their new classrooms with needed materials since those educators work for a month before ever receiving their first paycheck.
13. Sigma - DKG, Sigma Chapter-Lending Library - $1,875, area 1. It will provide books for a lending library so those most in need, especially children, have books available for them to read for free. Chapter members implement the project by securing books, cleaning the book case and reorganizing it every few weeks.
14. Theta Iota - Leading with Literacy - $1,000, area 15. This chapter will continue to provide kindergarten through 3rd graders of Capistrano Elementary School books to promote literacy. In addition they will provide mentoring and support to all the teachers, not only those in their early-career stage to help improve retention and to reduce burnout.
15. Mu Upsilon - DNA at Their Fingertips - $1,240, area 2, will continue their emphasis in science. This grant allows the chapter to purchase DNA test kits for high school students to use for a variety of tests that explore biology, the scientific method, genetic disease and even analyze a simulated crime scene all at the same time as mentoring the early career teachers by experienced educators in their chapter.
16. Mu Zeta - College Awareness Program - $620, area 5, will sponsor a College Awareness Night for 20 seniors who attend the Harlingen Boys and Girls Club. Through the event, students and parents learn about the process of applying to college as well as how to apply for financial aid.
17. Eta Zeta - Trojans Post-Secondary Preparatory Success Class - $602, area 9, provides 100 students the opportunity to prepare to take and be successful on college entrance exams.
18. Alpha - ESL and ELL Strategies for Student Success - $2,500 area 7, provides future teachers strategies in how to teach students who are learning the English language by teaching strategies to those future teachers to communicate with their future students.
